Qualified and Registered Hypnotherapist
I am friendly, approachable, compassionate and honest; a good listener and professional hypnotherapist. I want to help you make positive changes in your life. I will do this by helping you release negative thoughts, to then concentrate on the positive change you want and deserve to make your life better.
I believe in a solution-focused approach and you may also gain added benefits such as lower stress levels and more energy. By addressing the cause for you wanting some type of change, we won’t just be focusing on fixing the symptoms – but we’ll be making a positive change for good.
My most popular treatment plans at the moment are for:
• Reducing anxiety and stress • Stopping smoking
• Increasing confidence • Breaking habits
If you have questions or would like to talk your options through, I offer a free 10 minute consultation over the phone. You may have some questions about hypnotherapy and how it can help you. I have prepared some FAQs and notes below to help you understand both the benefits and power of hypnotherapy.
You are most welcome to give me call or get in touch for a conversation or specific question. I may also suggest other things you could do to help you with your treatment plan. This could include trying something new, keeping a journal, a creative activity or simply being more aware until of a certain behaviour until the next session.
I may also introduce techniques of NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming, which is about reframing the brain’s mindset) – I will keep you informed along the way if I think any alternative or complementary practice may also help.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is a type of therapy that uses the technique of relaxation, that helps a client relax their conscious mind to their subconscious mind is more open to suggestion to encourage positive change.
For sessions with myself, you will arrive and sit down (in a chair, not a patient bed or chaise lounge!) and I will sit the other side of the room. We will talk about your issue or target. Staying seating, I will talk you through everything. I will talk to you for the ‘treatment’ part of the session (you won’t be talking whilst in a hypnotic trance!). This is when I will ‘talk’ to the subconscious mind to help you with positive encouragement. I will gently wake you to your alert state and then we will talk about how the experience and will concrete in the positive suggestions and goals.
Please note you will not be asked to speak, do anything or reveal anything about yourself when in a hypnotic trance. I have included a ‘myth busting’ section at the bottom of this page.

What happens in a hypnotherapy session?
Let’s say you have an hour’s session.
(Please note that each session is as individual and as unique as you are, but this will give you an idea)
15 minutes: Chat about your goal or issue, and some useful information about yourself.
30 minutes: I will guide you into a relaxed state, where your mind and body will be relaxed. I will talk to you, guiding you into relaxation with positive suggestions for change and reaching your goal. I will then guide you back into wakefulness.
15 minutes: Summarising the session, reinforcing change made and answering any questions you may have.
1. We will start with a chat, about why you have come for hypnotherapy and your goals. This discussion will also involve finding out a little bit more about you and your issue or goal. This information will form the basis of the session.
2. I will then explain to you how the hypnotherapy session will work and I will talk through what it will involve.
3. I will also ask you if you have any questions or would like more information on anything.
4. The hypnotherapy will start with me leading you into a state of relaxation. Once relaxed, I will talk to you about measures for positive change and encouragement to reach your goal. This may be direct or I may use metaphors, stories or imagery to help communicate all this. You will then be gradually brought out of the relaxed state.
5. We will then discuss your experience of hypnotherapy, the positive suggestions used and any questions you may have. I will then explain a summary of the session and progress made.
Remember that you will be able to come out of the relaxed state whenever you want to. Remember that even during hypnosis, you are still conscious of your surroundings and what you do and hear.
Does hypnotherapy actually work?
Some people are more susceptible to suggestion and change than others. If you approach your hypnotherapy with 100% commitment and focus – you will achieve greater results.
Remember to keep an open mind and have confidence in yourself in the process.
How long does hypnotherapy last?
Each session will last an hour – remember that each treatment plan will be different for each individual. The number of sessions depends on your goal or the reason you have come for help. Each treatment plan is different for everyone.
The number of sessions can depend on the goal or reason why the client has come for help. I will advise and discuss with you the number of sessions that may be required, and I will always be flexible with decreasing or extending your treatment plan, according to your progress or circumstances.
To give you an idea, most clients tend to have either 2 or 4 sessions of hypnotherapy. Some clients (all agreed in advance) have more than 4 sessions (usually 6 maximum).
Some clients book monthly ongoing ‘maintenance’ sessions with me, to relax, balance and reflect on their lives.
If you are coming to see me with the goal to stop smoking, this is delivered in a one-off 2 hour session.
What can hypnotherapy help with?
Hypnotherapy can help with breaking habits, stopping smoking or vaping, losing weight, fears and phobias, anxiety, pain management, sexual dysfunction, panic attacks, different stress-related issues and long-term conditions. It can also help with public speaking, motivation, exam or event anxiety, improving relaxation, hot flushes, changes in behaviour, post-traumatic stress, bereavement, grief and loss.
Hypnotherapy can also help boost your confidence and self-esteem. It can also help improve sleep, develop communication, undesirable spontaneous behaviours and can help improve relationship issues.
There has also been a trend, recommended by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), as hypnotherapy has been recognised as treatment for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
How much does hypnotherapy cost?
I charge £50 for an hour’s session. For more, see my Bookings page.
The exception being the one-off sessions for stopping smoking, which are £150 for the longer 2 hour session.
You may have been referred to hypnotherapy by a doctor or healthcare professional. Access to hypnotherapy on the NHS is incredibly limited and while you can discuss the option with your healthcare provider, it’s not widely available and the majority of hypnotherapists work privately.
If you happen to work in the forces or emergency services, be on long-term sick leave or if you are currently unemployed, please mention this when you first get int ouch as I may be able to help at a discounted rate.
Who is hypnotherapy for?
It is for anyone who has an issue, a need for change or a goal in mind. I will ask you questions to collect information about yourself and you must tell me if you are taking any medication, if you are pregnant or have a health condition. This may affect your suitability for hypnotherapy or the approach we take.
I do not work with hypnotherapy on anyone under 18, but some hypnotherapists do.
Is hypnotherapy safe?
I am a qualified Hypnotherapist, a registrant of the National Hypnotherapy Society and on the accredited register of the Professional Standards Authority. Want to know more about me? Read more
I am also DBS (Enhanced) checked.
Hypnotherapy is considered as safe and is widely recommended as a complementary and alternative medical treatment.
Remember you can stop a session or wake to alertness at any point in a session. I will also be observing you during the session and your health and safety is my upmost priority.
Results and expectations
The result of your treatment does depend on your commitment to reaching your goal. As with any form of therapy or practice, I cannot guarantee a cure or solution. We also have to remember that hypnotherapy isn’t for everyone and I will be honest and open when advising you on the suitability of a treatment plan and our approach.
What do I need to do before a session?
I recommend you allow enough time to arrive in good time so you are relaxed before you come into the session rather than rushing in. Arrive about 5 minutes before hand. You don’t need to prepare anything in particular – just come with an open mind and commitment to reach your goal!
Myth busting hypnotherapy
- Hypnotherapy cannot make you do things or say things you would not normally say or do.
- During the session, you will be seated – you will not be moving around or touched during any session.
- You will enter a hypnotic trance, but you will not be unconscious or unresponsive to things around you.
- Hypnotherapists cannot control your mind.
- Some people think they won’t remember anything from hypnosis – it will be embedded in your subconscious and a good hypnotherapist will ensure you can recall it when needed!
- It’s nothing like a hypnosis stage show! A hypnotherapy session is for you, to consider you and your goal alone.
- Some say there’s no science behind it – well there is! The state of hypnosis is an entirely natural state. Hypnotherapy is so effective because it makes the most of the natural state of relaxation – it is a healthy state that has many other benefits for the body and mind. There is a lot of science and endless clinical studies on hypnotherapy and its benefits.
The subconscious is a powerful force – in hypnotherapy we’ll be talking direct to the subconscious mind but it will also remain alert for your own reasons, ensuring you are comfortable and safe at all times.
